Jeremiah Johnson Log Homes, LLC Interview

By Interviewer at 05/29/09 08:05

Name of your website?

Jeremiah Johnson Log Homes, LLC

Your name?

Anne-Marie Anderson

Your Location (city, etc)

Dumont, CO

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We are a handcrafted log home builder specializing in "Green" Log Home packages and turn-key builds. We construct log homes out of beetle kill lodgepole pine and western red cedar in both chinked and Swedish Cope styles. We also specialize in LEED certified homes and build throughout the State of Colorado

What inspired you to launch your own website?

We are a third generation building and have been in business 18 years. Our revised website now features plans, photos and frequently asked questions to help our potential clients choose a log home company.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

We lauched our first website in 2005 under our sister company, Anderson Custom Homes, LLC

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Jeremiah Johnson Log Homes is the name of our log home manufacturing division.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We were recently inducted into the National Association of Home Builder's Log Home Council...only the third company ever to receive this honor. Our website is different because we are one of the few companies nationwide specializing in LEED certified, green log homes constructed of Colorado beetle kill pine (We have a major pine beetle epidemic in CO which is killing every Lodgepole pine tree in the state. Loggers are having a very difficult time disposing of the logs and they are many times ending up in landfills

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Our main goal is to keep our website and try to continually update it in order to provide the log home customer with as much educational information as possible.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We just did a major revision of our website and doubled our website traffic.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would add more plans, more home virtual tours and more log home educational information, articles, etc.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

We would hire an IT professional to maintain our website and probably also hire an additional project manager / sales professional to perform additional job site visits.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Our biggest cost is my time to update our website because I am in the "learning phase" and am not an it professional.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Our website traffic has doubled in the last three weeks and therefore emails, phone calls and site visit requests have increase. This has created a wonderful problem to have but obviously more work for us.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Adding Log Home plans to our website

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I thought I would dread working on it and instead I find that I want to spend all my time to make it better but I can't at this point.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

We have had our site 4 years and plan to have it indefinately

What is your website address?
